I get it, this is late. Welcome to LA.
Did you miss last month's obsessions? I may be over them now...or not!
And for May, I am bringing you a fine selection of shit to make the start of summer way better....even though it feels like summer all the time here anyway but whatever any excuse to have a socially acceptable marg on a Monday is fine by me.
The beginning of summer is when most people are trying to get their "bikini bodies" and their general shit together. I have never fallen on this trend of being in swimsuit shape for one season of the year. Frankly it makes no sense to me because winter sweaters look just as bad on me if I am bloated (also if you are in the acting world in LA the likely hood of getting a last minute scantily clad audition is year-round....isn't the business so fun?!). So you're not about to read some diet trend tips or product recommendations below. How refreshing!
*None of these products/shops/etc are a sponsor or an ad. I just like good things and want my friends to have good things...and want to keep good companies in business.*
Sleep Master Sleep Mask
This sleep mask is legit the best one I have ever used. I have been really into them since I saw Breakfast At Tiffany's in high school...even though my high school bedroom was in the basement of our house in Illinois and really didn't require eye coverage. I have bought and thrown away several over the last few years after wearing and washing them into pieces (if you wear a sleep mask you really need to wash it about once a week, face oil is gross).
This little guy is soft as silk (since it is silk), and goes around your head terminator style, so it covers fully around the sides of your eyes and even goes over your ears for an extra little muffle-y treat. And you can wash it and air dry it to your liking. I take this on every trip too, hello hotel rooms with improper blinds! It's about $30 but well worth your monies.
A Custom One Piece
This was a purchase for a Bachelorette party and I have never gotten so many compliments in my life on my swimwear. I absolutely love any excuse to be sarcastic especially on clothing. I am also a really big advocate for the return of the one-piece. Not just because they are mildly more flattering but also because paying for each 1/2 of a bikini is nonsense. This is way cheaper and looks way better on my pale sun-screened body.
The awesome woman who runs the shop I got mine from (A Dash of Chic) also kindly offered a discount code for my readers...also I will probably use it myself. I'll even let you copy me and I promise I won't be mad.
Discount Code: THANKS15

How to Audition on Camera
Not exactly your traditional "beach read" I am aware. But this easy to follow book should be on every actors list. I wish I would have had it years ago when I moved to LA and made the transition from theatre-style acting to acting on camera.
The author Sharon Bialy is a very well known casting director who's credits are of most actors dreams. She outlines the basics of the hardest part of acting (in my opinion): auditioning. Everything from "should I still bring a headshot?" to "what do I do with an action-packed audition scene?" and all the stuff in-between. This is an easy quick read that you will want to pick up more than once.
Halo Top Ice Cream
Lastly, I am all about treats, but you know god damn well when you open a pint of ice cream you sure as shit don't put one small scoop in a tiny bowl and eat it like a mouse. You stick a spoon in it and go sit on your couch. Don't lie to me.
Well let's make your indulgence slightly lighter with my new obsession...even my boyfriend likes it and he hates almost everything I bring home with less than 1,000 calories. I have been on a lot of crazy stupid diets over the years. And made my own protein ice cream to make them less miserable. But these guys have it down to a science and it tastes way freaking better than anything I have ever made. Yes, there is dairy in Halo Top. But that's what makes it taste like real full calorie ice cream! I recommend Birthday Cake & Lemon Cake. Even better: toss in a handful of crushed almonds to slow down the sugar in your bloodstream.
Did you try any of my favs from last month or this month? Please let me know! Also, I am SUPER into suggestions of things you're obsessed with right now too. Comment below or email me! I'd love to put your favs on next month's list!
